Normally, when a six-seed knocks off a two-seed, it’s an upset.
But, when the six-seed is perennial powerhouse CBA, it doesn’t really qualify.
The program with 11 Section III football championships took down a program with two, Fayetteville-Manlius, 22-12 in the Class A semifinals Friday night to advance to next Friday night’s title game.
The Hornets (6-2) held a 12-7 lead after the first quarter on touchdown runs by star tailback T.J. Conley (seven yards) and quarterback Chris Hoalcraft (81 yards), but didn’t score again.
CBA (5-3) used two touchdown runs by senior running back Danny Anderson, who subbed in for starting QB Jordan Rae after Rae suffered an injury to his leg.
Anderson went 57 yards for a touchdown to put the Brothers in front, 15-12 at halftime. He added a five-yard score in the fourth quarter to provide the final cushion.
Rae’s injury is definitely a concern moving forward for CBA, which avenged a five-point loss to F-M earlier this season to advance to next Friday’s Class A championship against top-seed Indian River.
That game is scheduled to kickoff at 8 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
