Northstars blank Liverpool, fly to the final

The C-NS Northstars are now one win away from a four-peat after shutting out rival Liverpool in the Class AA semifinals Friday night, 17-0.

The top seeds opened the game with a goal-line stand against the Warriors, who’d driven down inside the 1-yard line before coming up empty on fourth and goal.

That set the tone for the rest of the game, in which Liverpool managed only 60 yards on the ground.

C-NS (7-2) followed that defensive stand with an 18-play, 95-yard touchdown drive capped by a three-yard scoring run by Jason Bartlett. He, Jaxon Razmovski, and Anthony Testa combined for 304 all-purpose yards for the Northstars, who avenged a 21-14 loss at Liverpool last month.

Now, C-NS has a chance to win its fourth straight sectional title, something no other Class AA team has done in Section III history.

The Northstars will take on third-seed Baldwinsville (7-2) in the final next Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.

C-NS beat the Bees, 40-7 back on September 24 in the only previous meeting this season.
