Rome City School District is proposing about $31.1 million in facility work for a December 8 vote, with two propositions residents will decide separately as part of the Rome school capital project.
The district’s October 28 announcement lists $23,151,555 for Clough Elementary School improvements and demolition of the former Staley school. A second proposition would provide $7,951,375 for Rome Free Academy stadium grandstand improvements.
The district says its financing plan would produce no additional tax impact. That is the district’s projection, not a statement that the work has no cost. Proposed funding includes about $19.6 million in federal and state disaster recovery money, state building aid, insurance recoveries, capital reserves and existing debt-service funds.
This Rome school capital project aims to enhance the educational environment for students and improve community facilities.
A community information session is set for Tuesday, November 17, at 6 p.m. in the Rome Free Academy Small Auditorium. Residents can ask about the work and financing before voting.
The district directs voters to its capital-project page for ward-based voting locations and other details. The proposals have not yet been approved by voters.
