The Late Bell: TNA Loads Thursday as AEW Sets a Post-PPV Test

PHOENIX PRO WRESTLING REPORT | THE LATE BELL: 5 PM EDITION

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 | By David Laguerre | News checked through 5:13 p.m. Eastern

TNA iMPACT preview: TNA gives Thursday a two-out-of-three-falls title fight, Ilja Dragunov makes his announced AEW in-ring debut tonight, and WWE offers two more Wednesday viewing choices. Plus, new reporting on Dragon Lee and a recovery update from Gurv Sihra.

Spoiler warning: This edition refers to completed Bound For Glory and WrestleDream developments. Tonight’s matches are previews, not results. Announced cards can change.

Reading guide: Official announcements establish the advertised cards. Backstage reporting is attributed to its source. Passages labeled “Phoenix analysis” are this column’s assessment.

What changed since this morning

The October 21 Morning Bell covered NXT’s completed results, the Bianca Belair and Jordynne Grace status reports, and the announced matches for tonight’s Dynamite. This edition does not repeat that recap.

TNA’s October 21 preview for Thursday’s iMPACT! confirms three matches and two speaking segments. AEW’s official Dynamite preview, published at 9:44 a.m. Eastern, also confirms the four matches reported in the Morning Bell. That is firmer sourcing for the same card, rather than four new afternoon additions.

Quick news: Dragon Lee and Gurv Sihra

Reported: Dragon Lee has re-signed with WWE, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, whose report was covered by Fightful at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday. Fightful did not provide contract length or financial terms. This remains attributed reporting, rather than a WWE contract announcement. Phoenix analysis: Keeping Lee would preserve a skilled performer who can work across singles and tag programs, but a reported agreement does not reveal his next storyline.

Wrestler’s own update: Gurv Sihra, formerly WWE’s Sunil Singh, said X-rays showed his lungs had returned to normal as he recovers from a collapsed lung. He also said he still could not fly. Fightful’s 3:28 p.m. report reproduces his October 21 social post. His message describes progress and hopes for clearance; it does not announce an in-ring return date.

The biggest story: Hotch and Ali get a two-fall test

Confirmed: TNA International Champion Jason Hotch will defend against Mustafa Ali in a Two Out of Three Falls Match. TNA says the match follows the Order 4 Way at Bound For Glory and continues the personal conflict between Hotch and his former leader.

The stipulation changes the rhythm of a championship match. One surprise finish cannot end the contest. A wrestler can lose the first fall and still recover, while a quick opening fall can create urgency without settling the title. The scheduled format asks each man to win two falls, creating room for a comeback within the match.

Phoenix analysis: This is the clearest centerpiece on Thursday’s card because the stipulation fits the rivalry. Ali knows Hotch’s habits, and Hotch has something to prove against the man who once led him. Two falls give TNA room to show both familiarity and adjustment. The strongest result would leave viewers with a definite champion rather than use the format to create another disputed ending.

Four wrestlers chase one X-Division opportunity

Confirmed: Rich Swann, KC Navarro, Cedric Alexander and Fabian Aichner will meet in a four-way match. The winner earns a future opportunity at the TNA X-Division Championship.

That gives the match a clear prize without guaranteeing when or where the title match will happen. TNA’s announcement confirms the opportunity, not an opponent, date or championship result.

Phoenix analysis: The four-way should offer a useful contrast. Swann and Navarro can increase the pace, Alexander brings experience in fast, technical matches, and Aichner can change the tone with strength. The key is making the winner feel earned. A contender’s match works best when the audience can explain why the victor deserves the next step.

Daria Rae returns; Allie and Kiera address their loss

Confirmed television segments: Director of Operations Daria Rae will return from her on-screen suspension and open iMPACT!. TNA says unfinished business with Knockouts World Champion Indi Hartwell remains part of the story.

That should be treated as a wrestling storyline, not a real-world employment or disciplinary report. TNA has announced Rae’s appearance, but it has not announced a match between Rae and Hartwell for Thursday.

Allie and Kiera Hogan will also address the Knockouts division after losing the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship. Their segment can establish whether they stay together, pursue a rematch or move in separate directions. None of those outcomes should be assumed before they speak.

Confirmed match: Avery Styles will face Joe Alonzo in Styles’ first singles match, with Frankie Kazarian at ringside. The promotion is presenting the bout as a chance for Styles to establish himself one-on-one. Kazarian’s presence supplies the surrounding story, but TNA has not announced him as a competitor.

How to watch TNA iMPACT!

Thursday Night iMPACT! airs Thursday, October 22, from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern on AMC, with AMC+ also carrying the weekly telecast. The date-specific AMC FearFest schedule lists iMPACT! at 9 p.m. and the next movie at 11 p.m.; AMC’s distribution announcement specifies the Eastern-time block and AMC+ availability. TNA’s preview also provides a TNA+ viewing link. The advertised venue is the Dothan Civic Center in Dothan, Alabama.

AEW tonight: the full lineup is now official

Confirmed: AEW Dynamite airs tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on TBS and HBO Max from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida. AEW’s official preview lists:

  • Ilja Dragunov vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey in Dragunov’s AEW in-ring debut.
  • AEW World Champion Will Ospreay and Adam Copeland vs. Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight.
  • Maya World vs. Queen Aminata to determine the number-one contender for the TBS Championship.
  • The Young Bucks vs. Mark Davis and Jake Doyle in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Eliminator.

The Morning Bell already examined the matchups. AEW’s own preview supplies primary-source confirmation of all four. The opponent mystery around Dragunov is over, and the two contender-related matches have defined stakes.

Phoenix analysis: Dragunov and Bailey supply the most direct athletic attraction. The featured tag match can begin sorting out the championship picture after WrestleDream, while the contender match and tag-title eliminator point toward later championship opportunities. Tonight’s challenge is follow-through: the show should advance the new post-pay-per-view direction instead of functioning only as a celebration of Saturday’s results.

Tonight’s WWE choices: Main Event and Evolve

WWE Main Event streams Wednesday, October 21, at 8 p.m. Eastern on Rumble. The official episode preview lists Chelsea Green vs. Lainey Reid and The MFTs vs. Fraxiom as non-title matches, plus Sol Ruca vs. Candice LeRae and Otis vs. Austin Theory. WWE says the program features matches recorded ahead of Raw and SmackDown. These are tonight’s advertised streaming matches, not a claim that the bouts are happening live.

WWE Evolve also airs tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on Tubi, according to WWE’s date-specific weekly guide. That makes three simultaneous 8 p.m. options for U.S. viewers when Dynamite is included. This edition does not assign Evolve a match card that has not been independently checked.

Looking ahead: The same WWE guide confirms SmackDown for Friday, October 23, at 8 p.m. Eastern on USA Network from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. For NXT’s completed October 20 results and announced October 27 matches, see the linked Morning Bell.

ROH planning note

ROH’s official Final Battle page lists December 4 at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio. Presales run October 21–22, with general sales beginning October 23; bell time remains to be announced. This is a calendar reminder from the morning edition, rather than a new afternoon match announcement.

CMLL and AAA: two weekend dates worth keeping

CMLL: Friday’s Grand Prix de Amazonas is set for October 23 at Arena México, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Mexico City time, or 10:30 p.m. Eastern. Queen Aminata is among the announced international participants, alongside Megan Bayne, Harley Cameron, Marina Shafir and wrestlers from several other promotions.

Phoenix analysis: Aminata’s advertised week has two distinct opportunities: a TBS contender’s match tonight and a major international showcase Friday. That is a useful reason for AEW viewers to follow CMLL’s event on its own terms. Neither appearance tells us who will win the other. A U.S. viewing platform was not established from the specific CMLL event page.

AAA: WWE’s official guide lists Héroes Inmortales for Saturday, October 24, at 10 p.m. Eastern on YouTube, from Gimnasio Olímpico in Mexico City. That is the listed broadcast time.

The late-bell takeaway

TNA supplies this edition’s clearest new card development. Thursday now has a title match with a meaningful stipulation, a four-way contender match, a singles debut and two segments that can reshape the Knockouts and authority stories. AEW’s card was already known this morning, but its official preview now confirms the complete board.

Phoenix analysis: Dragunov–Bailey is tonight’s first-stop attraction, but the women’s contender match deserves equal attention for what it could set up next. Tomorrow, Hotch–Ali has the clearest competitive stakes. Both broadcasts will be judged by how well the announced matches move their wrestlers forward.
