PHOENIX PRO WRESTLING REPORT | THE MORNING BELL
Wednesday, October 21, 2026 | By David Laguerre
NXT’s closing grudge match spilled out of control, the Dusty Cup moved toward its semifinals, and tonight’s AEW debut now has an opponent. We also separate the latest reporting from unanswered questions about Bianca Belair and Jordynne Grace.
Spoiler warning: This column discusses the completed October 20, 2026 episode of WWE NXT. News and announced cards were checked on the morning of October 21. Wrestling angles are identified as on-screen stories; reported backstage plans are not treated as official announcements.

NXT quick results: October 20, 2026
For the latest NXT results, continue reading as we delve into the highlights and key moments from the show.
- El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno defeated BirthRight’s Charlie Dempsey and Lexis King in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic quarterfinal.
- Izzi Dame defeated Layla Diggs.
- Hank Walker and Tank Ledger defeated The Creed Brothers in the other Dusty Cup quarterfinal.
- Cruz Montana vs. Dion Lennox ended in a double count-out.
Results: WWE’s official October 20 recap. The main event’s official ruling matters: neither wrestler was awarded a victory.
The biggest story: Montana loses control, and Lennox gets his reaction
Montana and Lennox’s rivalry escalated beyond the scorecard. Lennox’s taunts about Montana’s family brought a furious response, including a spear through the ringside barricade. The referee counted both men out, but Montana continued attacking Lennox and DarkState, with exposed flooring and the steel ring steps becoming part of the scene. Pro Wrestling Transcriptions’ match account details the escalation.
Montana was taken into custody in the television storyline, as Wrestling Inc. recapped. This was an on-screen arrest angle, not independently verified real-world crime news.
Phoenix analysis: Lennox failed to win the match but succeeded in provoking the reaction he wanted. That gives the feud a useful complication: Montana’s anger can make him dangerous to his opponent and costly to himself. The next chapter needs consequences or a clear path to another match. Repeating the same provocation without moving the story forward would quickly exhaust the ending’s value.
The Dusty Cup: Hank and Tank advance, and AAA’s champions survive
Hank Walker and Tank Ledger capitalized when Brutus Creed distracted the official, finishing Julius with their double-team offense. Earlier, Zilla Fatu returned during BirthRight’s quarterfinal, helping swing the match toward AAA World Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno before attacking BirthRight. Both winning teams advanced to the semifinals, as WWE confirmed.
Phoenix analysis: Hank and Tank gain a meaningful tournament win over established opponents. The Wagner brothers’ advancement also keeps AAA represented in a competition with a clear destination. Fatu’s involvement advances his own dispute, although it means the champions’ victory shares attention with the interference. The semifinals should give the teams room to establish why they deserve the trophy on their own merits.
Waller and D’Angelo make their title match personal
Grayson Waller and Tony D’Angelo argued over their shared NXT beginnings, opportunities and accomplishments. Respect and legacy became central to their title rematch. Wrestling Inc.’s segment account captures the competing claims.
Phoenix analysis: This is a sound foundation for a title program. Each man can believe he has been underestimated, and the championship gives them a way to settle that argument. They do not need another outside complication to explain why the match matters.
The women’s stories also grew more personal. Kelani Jordan confronted Wren Sinclair with an already beaten-down Kendal Grey, while Izzi Dame accepted a Halloween Havoc match with Zaria but declined the championship opportunity. Those are different motivations: Jordan is trying to hurt her challenger through an ally, and Dame is prioritizing the personal dispute. The broadcast recap confirms both developments; Zaria–Dame should not be advertised here as a title match.
Bianca Belair: recovery context, maternity leave and no confirmed return date
For readers asking whether Bianca Belair is still on the mend, the available reporting needs a careful timeline. Fightful’s October 20 status tracker lists her on maternity leave. WWE confirmed that Belair and Montez Ford announced the arrival of their first child together on August 4.
Her most recent specific hand-health update located for this report dates to August 25. In Fightful’s contemporaneous account of her Instagram Story, Belair described carpal tunnel symptoms in both hands, numbness and reduced grip strength, following the finger problems that had kept her away from in-ring competition.
Return status: No confirmed in-ring return date or newer medical clearance announcement was located by this edition’s deadline. The August symptoms are a dated self-report, not a fresh October diagnosis. It would go beyond the evidence to assign her an event, say she is cleared, or promise that a return is imminent.
Phoenix verdict: Belair’s health and readiness should set the timetable. Fans can look forward to her return without turning an old health update into a new setback or guessing at a deadline.

Jordynne Grace: reported creative uncertainty, no announced comeback
Jordynne Grace’s situation calls for different wording. Cultaholic reported October 20, citing WrestleVotes, that her absence was not an injury layoff and that she was not currently part of WWE’s creative plans. That is attributed backstage reporting, not a public explanation from WWE or Grace.
Separately, Fightful reported October 20 that WWE had tentative plans as recently as September to introduce Grace and Ivy Nile as a tag team, using vignettes filmed earlier. A plan discussed in September and a report of no current creative direction can describe different stages of the same process. Neither establishes that a debut has been booked.
Grace has not wrestled for WWE since June, according to Fightful. Its October 20 tracker lists her as inactive with no estimated return date. The precise day of her last match varies across available accounts, so this column is not assigning one.
Phoenix analysis: A Grace–Nile pairing could give both women a focused role, but fans still need an actual introduction, opponents and sustained television time. For now, a potential team remains a reported idea. No confirmed comeback date was located, and there is no basis here to label Grace’s absence an ongoing injury recovery.
AEW tonight: Dragunov will face Mike Bailey
Ilja Dragunov’s AEW in-ring debut now has an announced opponent: “Speedball” Mike Bailey. Fightful’s October 21 preview lists four matches for Dynamite from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida:
- Ilja Dragunov vs. Mike Bailey.
- Will Ospreay and Adam Copeland vs. Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight.
- Maya World vs. Queen Aminata in a TBS Championship No. 1 contender’s match.
- The Young Bucks vs. Mark Davis and Jake Doyle in an AEW World Tag Team Championship eliminator.
The U.S. broadcast begins at 8 p.m. Eastern on TBS and Max. The venue’s arena event time is separate from the television start.
Phoenix analysis: Bailey gives the debut a distinct matchup rather than leaving the attraction entirely to the surprise of a new arrival. The two contender-related matches also give the broadcast consequences beyond the debut. These are announced matches, not results; the card remains subject to change.
Across the promotions: TNA, ROH, CMLL and AAA
TNA: The company confirmed on October 20 that it has re-signed Santino Marella, its on-screen Director of Authority. TNA did not disclose the agreement’s length or financial terms. Phoenix analysis: Keeping a familiar authority figure provides continuity, particularly with his established on-screen dispute with Daria Rae. A new contract does not itself announce a wrestling return or a particular segment.
ROH: There is a concrete date for fans planning ahead: Final Battle is set for Friday, December 4, at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio. The official listing says presales begin October 21 and general sales begin October 23. The event’s bell time is still listed as to be announced.
CMLL: Friday’s Grand Prix de Amazonas on October 23 brings an 11-woman CMLL side against an 11-woman international team at Arena México. The announced field includes Persephone, Olympia and Thunder Rosa on one side, and Queen Aminata, Megan Bayne, Momo Watanabe and AZM on the other. Bell time is 8:30 p.m. Mexico City time, or 10:30 p.m. Eastern. Phoenix analysis: The depth of the cross-promotional field is the attraction; it gives viewers a chance to see women from several wrestling scenes share one major showcase.
AAA: WWE’s official weekly schedule confirms Héroes Inmortales for Saturday, October 24, at 10 p.m. Eastern on YouTube, from Gimnasio Olímpico in Mexico City. That is the listed broadcast slot, rather than an assumed conversion from an arena time.
Next on the calendar
- Friday, October 23: WWE SmackDown from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, at 8 p.m. Eastern on USA, per WWE’s schedule.
- Tuesday, October 27: NXT’s announced matches include Jackson Drake defending the North American Championship against EK Prosper; Hank and Tank vs. the Wagner brothers and Vanity Project vs. Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno in the Dusty Cup semifinals; and Lizzy Rain vs. Chantel Monroe. Source: Fightful’s roundup of the October 20 broadcast announcements.
- Saturday, October 31: NXT Halloween Havoc begins at 7 p.m. Eastern on The CW and ESPN Unlimited. WWE’s official preview confirms Waller vs. D’Angelo for the NXT Championship, Jordan vs. Sinclair for the NXT Women’s Championship, and Danhausen as host.
The Phoenix Verdict
NXT’s most consequential ending belonged to Montana and Lennox, while the Dusty Cup supplied the clearest competitive progress. The balance to watch is whether the personal grudges produce satisfying matches rather than simply more interruptions and attacks.
Tonight, Dragunov–Bailey is the obvious first-stop attraction. Away from the ring, Belair and Grace deserve accurate, separate updates: Belair has a documented recovery history and is currently listed on maternity leave; Grace’s latest reports concern creative direction. Neither has a confirmed return date in the sources reviewed for this edition.
Reader’s corner: Did Montana’s closing angle strengthen his rivalry with Lennox? Which team should win the Dusty Cup? Would you build Grace’s return around a singles program or a partnership with Ivy Nile? Share your thoughts in the comments.
