August is Black Business Month in NYS

On August 7, 2025    Assemblyperson Marianne Buttenschon presented Phoenix Radio, the region’s only Black female owned media, with a New York State Resolution recognizing it’s unique status as a Black Owned Business in New York State.

Since 2018, Phoenix Radio, recognized by its call signs WUSP and 95.5 FM The Heat, has provided a unique and independent platform and has been a source of information for Uticans and Mohawk Valley citizens from all walks of life. Phoenix Radio’s unique status as a Black owned, media business in a small urban, Upstate market has initiated a societal impact that has been positive; and the full potential of this unique status has not yet fully come to fruition.

Buttenschon, accompanied by her media liaison, made a point to visit The Heat and deliver the Resolution herself while DJ Dr. Duss was on the air. Radio Personality, Dave the Difference Dancy was glad to join the President and CEO of For The Good, Inc. and Owner of Phoenix Radio, Cassandra Harris-Lockwood and Assemblywoman Buttenschon for a timely photo-op.
