3 Mohawk Valley Communities Achieve “Bronze Certification”

Mohawk, NY – Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, Inc. (MVEDD) would like to congratulate three communities on achieving Bronze Certification in the Climate Smart Communities (CSC) program. CSC is a New York State program that helps local governments take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to a changing climate.
CSC is a voluntary, self-led and self-guided program that provides a framework of actions communities can pursue that make sense for their community. For example, participating communities can earn points in the program for flood-related projects like culvert and dam replacement, infrastructure projects like sidewalks and bike lanes, and energy projects such as weatherizing buildings or installing LED lights.
MVEDD has dedicated coordinators on staff that work with municipalities on getting registered through this program and completing actions. Coordinators are a resource for communities navigating this program, and our staff can provide technical assistance, presentations to board members, and attend CSC related meetings.
MVEDD would like to extend congratulations to three communities that have achieved the distinction of Bronze Certification in CSC, bringing the total number of Bronze Certified communities in the Mohawk Valley to eight. Of these newest certified communities, we are announcing the first Mohawk Valley County level certification. The following communities were awarded Bronze Certification in April 2026:
  • Otsego County
  • Town of Middlefield
  • Village of Cooperstown
“Seeing these communities be honored for their hard work in the program is wonderful,” says Kaitlyn Coluccio, Sustainability Specialist at MVEDD. “We as coordinators are here to help any community interested in the program. Many actions communities are already taking could count for points in the program – such as comprehensive plan updates, stormwater infrastructure, and weatherization projects. You might be a lot closer to Bronze Certification than you think!”
If you are interested in how CSC works, or would like to schedule a meeting with a coordinator to see how the program could benefit your municipality, reach out to Ms. Coluccio at kcoluccio@mvedd.org or call (315) 866-4671.
