The annual Go Red for Women Showcase and Luncheon is being held Thursday at the Oncenter in Syracuse. The event was held virtually last year because of the pandemic.
Attendees will again find displays and kiosks focusing on nutrition, exercise and overall heart health. Health advocates said it’s never too late to begin focusing on better health through good nutrition and exercise.
Heart disease continues to be the number top killer of all women across the country. That’s why health advocates with the American Heart Association are reminding us of some tips when it comes to better heart health.
“It’s really a good time to think about how you’re eating, how you’re moving. Get up and walk. Even if it’s just around your house. Go up your stairs. Walk around your first floor, whatever you can do. If you’re going somewhere, park a little farther away. Get those steps in your day. As we get into the holiday season, think about your portions. Think about what levels of sodium and added sugar you’re eating,” said American Heart Association Communications Director Kristy Smorol.
Officials said you can always find some good heart healthy tips by visiting their website.
The American Heart Association says one in every three women will die of cardiovascular disease. Officials said even if you think it’s too late to start healthier habits, it’s not.
Thursday’s showcase will be more spread out than in years past and masks will be required inside.
