UTICA, N.Y. — Dr. Christopher Spence is no longer superintendent of the Utica City School District following a unanimous Board of Education vote Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Board members voted 6-0 during a special meeting to approve an employment separation agreement that took effect immediately. The agreement was reviewed during an executive session and had not been publicly released as of Tuesday evening.
Dr. Spence had been on leave since June 3. His requested leave expired July 31, and Kathleen Davis has been serving as acting superintendent.
The board previously voted not to renew Dr. Spence’s contract when it was scheduled to expire in August 2027. His attorney later filed a complaint alleging discrimination and retaliation by school board members. The district has denied the allegations.
The district’s next regular Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Utica City School District Administration Building, 929 York St., Utica. School board meetings are open to the public. The district calendar lists the meeting from 7 to 9 p.m.
