Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County is hosting a cut flower workshop on Saturday,
October 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Fernwood, NY. This workshop will highlight key
considerations when getting started. This program is open to beginning farmers, as well as more
established growers who have a few seasons under their belt.
Joshua Vrooman, Agriculture Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, will
review direct-to-consumer trends, showing that specialty farms are best positioned for local and
regional sales. Elizabeth Lamb, Horticulture IPM Coordinator and Adjunct Assistant Professor at
the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University, will discuss other important factors
when getting started including pest management. Claire Collie, owner of Fernwood Flower Farm,
will provide a tour of her farm operation and give a grower’s perspective. Attendees will also learn
about the Flower Collective of Central New York, and other important sales channels. There will be
plenty of time for questions and networking.
