Central Square Man Arrested for Grand Larceny
On April 7, 2025, State Police in Fulton arrested Shaun P. Sharp, age 37, of Central Square, NY, for Grand Larceny 4th degree, a class E felony.
Sharp was working as a contractor at a residence in Fulton when, on March 25, 2025, the homeowner reported approximately $11,000 in coins missing from the home. An investigation determined that Sharp was allegedly responsible for stealing the coins, along with 14 bottles of liquor.
At the time of his arrest, Sharp was already in custody at the Oswego County Jail on an unrelated matter. During the course of the investigation, troopers also learned that Sharp had violated an active order of protection by contacting a protected party while incarcerated.
In addition to the Grand Larceny charge, Sharp was charged with Criminal Contempt 2nd degree for the order of protection violation. He was transported back to the Oswego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
State Police partners with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in resolving multiple larceny investigations
On April 4, 2025, State Police, with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Ricky A. Hemstreet II, 26, of Johnstown, NY, for:

- Three counts of Grand Larceny in the third degree
- Criminal Mischief in the second degree
- Criminal Mischief in the third degree
- Petit Larceny
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree
While investigating multiple Walmart thefts throughout the area, Hemstreet was identified as a suspect in numerous outstanding investigations into larcenies of wire and other metal material reportedly from properties in Amsterdam, the village of Cobleskill, Florida, and the village of Fonda, NY, which occurred from February until April 2025. During two of those larcenies, it was determined that Hemstreet allegedly caused extensive damage by stealing wires installed as a utility. Hemstreet allegedly turned the stolen materials over to a local scrap yard in exchange for money.
Hemstreet was taken into custody by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as a result of a similar criminal investigation. He was processed on all changes and then arraigned at the Mohawk Town Court, where he was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility *in lieu of $1,000 cash or $5,000 bond.

State Police Respond to Jackknifed Tractor Trailer on I-81 in Jefferson County
On April 8, 2025, at approximately 10:39 a.m., New York State Police responded to a report of a jackknifed tractor-trailer on Interstate 81 in the Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County.
The investigation determined that Patrick A. Zent, age 55, of North Tonawanda, NY, was operating a 2016 Freightliner southbound on Interstate 81 when he lost control of the vehicle due to snow-covered roadway conditions. The truck subsequently jackknifed, and the impact caused the vehicle’s fuel tank to be punctured, resulting in the release of approximately 60 gallons of fuel onto the roadway.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) was notified and responded to the scene for spill mitigation and cleanup.
Zent was issued a traffic ticket for speed not reasonable and prudent. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Vantassel Towing.
No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
Trooper Injured, Dewitt Man Arrested for Assault
On March 31, 2025, at approximately 6:51 p.m., State Police from North Syracuse were assisting the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office at 3800 New Court Avenue in the Town of Dewitt. While attempting to take David M. O’Brien, age 52, of Dewitt, into custody on an active probation warrant, O’Brien physically resisted and became combative, resulting in a struggle.
Troopers and Deputies were ultimately able to gain control and take O’Brien into custody. During the altercation, a Trooper assigned to SP North Syracuse sustained a fractured ankle and was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
O’Brien was charged with the following:
- Assault in the 2nd degree – Police Officer (Class C felony)
- Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree (Class A misdemeanor)
- Resisting Arrest (Class A misdemeanor)
Following processing at SP North Syracuse, where he remained uncooperative and combative, O’Brien was transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
State Police arrest two following Salem traffic stop
On April 5, 2025, State Police of Greenwich arrested Derek R. Bushee, 42, of Arlington, VT, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Bradley W. Hughes, 35, of Arlington, VT, was also arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.
On April 5, 2025, at about 6:49 p.m., Troopers stopped a vehicle on Perry Hill Road in Salem, NY, for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. The driver was identified as Bushee, and the passenger as Hughes. It was determined that neither individual possessed a valid driver’s license. Further investigation discovered felony-weight narcotics in the vehicle and multiple glass smoking devices containing drug residue.
Both were transported to SP Greenwich for processing. They were then turned over to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
New Scotland trespass complaint resulted in felony drug arrest
On April 6, 2025, State Police arrested Zachary J. Quick, 43, of Feura Bush, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree, and Trespass.
On April 6, 2025, at about 11:14 a.m. Troopers responded to a property in New Scotland, NY, for the reports of an active trespass. The investigation discovered Quick on the property without permission or authorization. Quick was taken into custody and found to possess a controlled substance that later field-tested positive for Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).
Quick was transported to SP New Scotland for processing. He was arraigned at the Westerlo Town Court, where he was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
State Police arrest Clifton Park man for possessing Child Pornography
On April 8, 2025, State Police of Clifton Park, with the assistance of the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, arrested Trevor W. English, 41, of Clifton Park, NY, for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class “D” felony, and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class “E” felony.
English is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his Clifton Park, NY, residence on April 8, 2025. The investigation stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
English was arrested and transported to SP Clifton Park for processing. English was then arraigned in the Clifton Park Town Court, where he was ordered to surrender his passport and released.
State Police Investigating Fatal Dirt Bike Crash in Onondaga County
On April 7, 2025, at approximately 7:32 p.m., State Police in Lafayette responded to a reported dirt bike crash on a trail north of 4163 Tanner Road in the Town of Onondaga, Onondaga County.
The preliminary investigation determined that Caleb T. Devoe, 33, of Auburn, NY, was operating a 2011 Yamaha dirt bike when, for unknown reasons, he exited the trail and went down a 5-foot embankment. Devoe was found by bystanders at the bottom of the embankment. Devoe was being transported by TLC Ambulance when he lost consciousness and went into cardiac arrest. Life-saving measures were performed, and Devoe was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing.
