SPCA hopes puppygrams introduce folks to new love

The Ulster County SPCA and their four-legged friends have a different way to tell your significant other you love them on Valentine’s Day.

It’s the SPCA’s third year offering puppygrams to folks in the area, which raises money for the shelter and awareness for their adoptable dogs.

If you live within an hour from the Kingston shelter, you can buy a puppygram to send to your Valentine’s home or work. Each one comes with plenty of goodies to go along with a visit from a furry friend.

For instance, there’s Valentine, named for her adorable heart-shaped spot.

“A box of chocolates, a stuffed dog and a card that is from the dog that is doing the delivery,” Ulster SPCA Executive Director Gina Carbonari said. “Their photo is in there and a little Valentine’s wish, along with their signature paw print.”

She said each dog that delivers a Valentine neatly wrapped in their backpacks is adorable and adoptable.

The program helps pups find forever homes.

“And it is a great way for us to be able to highlight how fabulous these dogs are, how they will be great companions in the home and hopefully, we get some dogs adopted from the event as well,” Carbonari said.

She said getting dogs in front of people is important because it allows people to see them firsthand and get an idea of what they’re like.

“They can see how friendly they are, that they’re good with people,” Carbonari said. “They get to learn a little bit more about their personalities and their temperaments. So, anytime we can get them in front of people, it’s always a great opportunity for them to finally find that home.”

The SPCA is providing a total of 50 puppygrams, so Carbonari recommends making a reservation.
