Photographer Samantha Box to present as part of Pratt Munson’s Pribble Lecture Series

Utica, N.Y. — Pratt Munson College of Art and Design will welcome Jamaican-born, Bronx-based photographer Samantha Box at noon Feb. 12, to Munson’s Sinnott Family–Bank of Utica in Downtown Utica as she presents as part of the Easton Pribble Lecture Series. This event is free and open to the public.

Most recently, Box’s work has been exhibited at Light Work, the Silver Eye Center of Photography, and at Le Rencontres d’Arles; it is currently in exhibition at the Bronx Museum of Art, with upcoming solo shows at the Des Moines Art Center and the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, D.C).

“I’m thrilled to welcome photographer Samantha Box to our campus, where she will present her work and mentor students in both group and one-on-one sessions,” said Sarah Smith, Associate Professor of Photography at Pratt Munson. “The beauty of the Pribble Lecture Series lies in bringing contemporary artists and designers directly to our community, where they can meaningfully guide and energize our students’ creative development, leaving a lasting impact on our entire campus.”

Box has been an artist-in-residence at the Center of Photography at Woodstock, the Visual Studies Workshop, and at Light Work. She has been awarded a NYFA/NYSCA Fellowship in Photography twice (2010 and 2022), an En Foco Fellowship, and a Silver Eye Fellowship. In 2023, she was shortlisted for the Aperture Portfolio Prize, the Louis Roederer Discovery Award, and the Prix De La Photo Madame Figaro. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Art in Houston and of the Harvard Art Museums.

She holds an MFA in advanced photographic studies from Bard College.

Seasoned artists are invited to Utica to give presentations as part of the Easton Pribble Lecture Series at the Museum of Art. Named for a beloved late professor of painting and drawing, the mission of the series is to invite guest artists who represent a variety of creative disciplines and bring a diversity of perspectives to inspire, motivate, and challenge students. A faculty-led committee invites artists to Utica each year who amplify voices and illuminate career pathways historically and presently marginalized within the art and design worlds.
