Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death nationwide.
Volunteers from Onondaga County joined with walkers Saturday at Long Branch Park, as part of the annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk.
This year’s event raised nearly $140,000 to help support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and support programs.
The walk was organized by the Greater Central New York Chapter of the foundation, which set a goal to reduce the annual rate of suicide across the country by 20% by the year 2025.
The walk in Liverpool is one of the more than 550 held across the country this year.
Last year, Out of Darkness walks nationwide helped raise over $21 million for suicide prevention.
