NYC Announces Free Central Park Watch Party for FIFA World Cup 2026 Final

NYC to Host Free Central Park Watch Party for FIFA World Cup 2026 Final

New York City is preparing to turn Central Park into one of the biggest soccer viewing celebrations in the world.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Governor Kathy Hochul, FIFA, and the NYNJ Host Committee announced that a free public watch party will be held on Central Park’s Great Lawn for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final on Sunday, July 19, 2026. The event is expected to welcome 50,000 fans, giving New Yorkers and visitors a chance to experience the excitement of the World Cup Final together, even if they cannot attend the match in person.

The free watch party will be presented by Global Citizen, which will distribute tickets through a lottery system. Registration opens Thursday, June 11 at 10 a.m. and will remain open through July 16. Doors are scheduled to open at noon ET, with the final match beginning at 3 p.m. ET. City officials said 20 percent of tickets will be reserved for local nonprofit organizations and NYC Service volunteers.

The event will feature three large LED screens, live entertainment, local food vendors, and appearances by iHeartRadio personalities Charlamagne tha God and Elvis Duran, who will emcee the celebration.

Mayor Mamdani said the goal is to make the World Cup experience available to everyday New Yorkers, not just those who can afford high-priced tickets.

“You shouldn’t have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to be part of the World Cup,” Mamdani said in the announcement. “From a free watch party for 50,000 New Yorkers on the Great Lawn to fan festivals in every borough and investments that help small businesses share in the benefits of this tournament, we’re making sure the World Cup belongs to the people who make this city what it is.”

Governor Hochul also emphasized accessibility, saying New Yorkers deserve the opportunity to enjoy the World Cup atmosphere in their own city.

In addition to the watch party, officials announced the opening of “FIFA Arena,” a temporary mini-soccer pitch in Central Park. The field will be open from June 10 through July 18 and will offer free youth clinics, community tournaments, and open-play opportunities for New Yorkers of all ages. The pitch will be installed by FIFA and operated by Street Soccer USA.

The World Cup Final watch party is backed by a $6 million investment from Empire State Development and a $3.5 million allocation from New York City. Organizers say the event is part of a broader effort to make the 2026 World Cup more inclusive, with free fan events planned across all five boroughs.

For a city filled with immigrant communities, soccer fans, families, and young athletes, the Central Park watch party is expected to be more than a sporting event. It will be a celebration of culture, community, and the global game.

As the world turns its attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, New York City is making sure that thousands of people can share in the excitement together — for free, in the heart of Central Park.
