North Syracuse School District taking action after fights, vandalism

North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent Daniel Bowles sent a letter to families Thursday, saying the district is taking action against what he calls disruptive student behavior.

Bowles said the district cannot discuss specific student issues, but said there’s been multiple instances of fighting, vandalism and destruction of property at the junior high and high school buildings this week.

Additional deputies from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office will now be acting as school resource officers.

There will also be more administrative personnel stationed in buildings throughout the day.

In a statement to families, Bowles said the actions of a few students are creating an atmosphere where all students and staff feel unsafe.

“We are asking you to have discussions with your children about appropriate behavior, both in-person and on social media devices, and the serious consequences of poor choices,” Bowles said.

The superintendent also said the district will continue to monitor and address each student issue.
