Mushroom Cultivation for Food Sovereignty

A Mohawk Valley Freedom School Workshop

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 7-9 p.m. at The Other Side, 2011 Genesee St., Utica.

What is the relationship of food sovereignty to individual political practice what is its relationship to community resilience in the face of climate breakdown? Thomas Wendt, author, design researcher and homesteader will provide a practical example of practicing food sovereignty by preparing to grow your own edible mushrooms. Cultivating mushrooms is a perfect way for beginners and expert gardeners to add diversity to their diet and practice food sovereignty with relatively little time and cost investment. Mushrooms can provide an abundant source of food and medicine, a means of remediating damaged soil, and a new appreciation for organisms that live on the fringes. Each participant will prepare their own mushroom-growing substrate to take home and watch grow. Thomas Wendt is an avid wild food forager, amateur mushroom cultivator, and post-civilization anarchist.

Program is free to the public. However, a suggested donation of $5-$10 will help cover the cost of materials. For information contact Kim at 315 735-4825 or kodomenico@verizon
