Journalism Professor Provides Support For HBCU Students Through Ida B

“This semester, my goal is to raise $25,000, which generally helps around 70 students enrolled at Morgan State and Howard University. The funds will be split between the two institutions,” she writes on GoFundMe. “Each student, regardless of their major, is required to complete a form and provide a list of their book titles. They will receive a maximum of $250.”

The funds can be used to purchase textbooks from either Amazon or their campus bookstore. It can also be used to cover other educational necessities—such as course software, necessary equipment, or an internet hotspot for those with connection issues.

“I’ve heard from many recipients that this textbook fund has made a huge difference in their ability to perform well and complete their coursework. So, I hope that you’ll take a moment and give what you can spare. No amount is too small. Our students appreciate your generosity,” Dr. Patton writes.

The GoFundMe launched about a week ago, and it’s currently less than $5,000 away from meeting its $25,000 goal. Those interested can donate here.
