J-D School Board on racist Zoom meeting incident

[ad_1]

Board members at the Jamesville-DeWitt School District say they are reaffirming their committment to diversity, following a Zoom meeting that was interrupted by racist comments last week.

The derrogatory comments happened during what was supposed to be a meeting for students.

Another board meeting was held by the school Monday night, and officials condemned the racially charged incident, saying police are investigating the incident.

In the meantime, J-D school officials are continuing to work on making the district a more inclusive place for all.

“We understand that many of our families and staff members especially those of color may question if J-D is a district that just talks the talk. We are not. We are committed to change. We must stay committed to our diversity, equity and inclusion work known as DEI and embed the four key tennets of culturally sustaining education to our work,” said Lori Deforest, J-D School Board president.

On a more technical level, board members say measures have been put in place to tighten security protocols and prevent another incident.
