State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Lockport
LOCKPORT, N.Y. — New York State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred Friday night, May 29, 2026, on Sunset Drive in the town of Lockport, Niagara County.
According to State Police, troopers responded to Sunset Drive at approximately 9:33 p.m. after receiving a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. Investigators said a vehicle traveling on Sunset Drive hit an adult male pedestrian.
Troopers who arrived at the scene immediately began rendering aid, including CPR, until emergency medical personnel arrived. The pedestrian was later identified as LeRoy P. Smith, 81, of Lockport. He was transported for medical evaluation and later pronounced deceased.
Police identified the driver as Sean Michael Patrick Leslie, 22, of Grand Island. State Police said Leslie remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, with assistance from uniform members assigned to Lockport, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional information was available as of the June 1 release.
