It was a quiet morning in Oneida County for voters, but some say having access to the polls ahead of Election Day is convenient.
“I was very happy to see there was early voting, partly because I am going to be going south for the winter before Election Day,” said Kim Landon. “It seems to keep the crowds down, it makes it more convenient to come. I think it’s something that should just be ordinary that we do.”
“Easier than last year, because it wasn’t the presidential election,” said Leslie Bormann. “Which is too bad because there’s a lot of important things that people should come and vote for anyway.”
In Onondaga County, the Democratic committee held a rally to kick off their get out the vote campaign. Gov. Kathy Hochul made an appearance to encourage residents to cast their ballot.

“We need to inspire others, the next generation,” Hochul (D) said. “To be there with us now, to learn how to do this like I did and then to carry on the message for generations to come. We have so many fights ahead.”
The governor has yet to sign the “Make Voting Easy Act,” which was passed by the state legislature. The bill requires the board of elections to designate at least one early voting polling places for every 30,000 registered voters in each county. In Onondaga County, this means polling sites would extend from six to 10.
