City of Syracuse getting COVID-19 money to vaccinate hard-to-reach areas

The city of Syracuse is getting more than half a million in COVID-19 relief and officials plan to use that money to vaccinate people who live in hard-to-reach communities.

City leaders and advocates said the grant is a first-of-its-kind — with more than $600,000 going toward training.

The goal is to help keep the community safe and leaders say the first step is education.

“We need to dispell those rumors, deal with facts and save lives,” said SCC CEO Larry Williams. “And so these health workers are going to absolutely be a life changing event for us here.”

The new grant is funded by the CDC to support person-to-person outreach.
