There’s less than a week until Thanksgiving, and plenty of people will hit the stores over the coming days to get their essentials.
So if you want to get a smaller turkey, you might want to get shopping sooner rather than later.
“For smaller families, if you’re looking to have a smaller turkey, I would encourage you to shop early, because those actually are [at] a premium,” said Evelyn Ingram with Wegmans. “The larger turkeys obviously will be fully stocked and we’ll have [a] plentiful inventory of those. But the smaller turkeys, you may want to shop a little earlier.”
According to Consumer Reports, there are plenty of turkeys to go around; it just depends on what size you’re looking for. Wegmans says it will have enough employees for the busy season. Despite national hold-ups with supply chains, you should expect to see everything you need on the shelves. The grocery chain started planning for this time of year in January.
A survey from the New York Farm Bureau says prices for those essentials have gone up this year. It’s a small increase, though. The average cost for a meal this year, including a 16-pound turkey, is around $52. The average meal cost for New Yorkers is just a dollar less than the national average.
