Fourth Annual Puerto Rico Constitution Day Celebration

UTICA, NY – The Mohawk Valley Latino Association, Inc. (MVLA) proudly announces the Fourth Annual Puerto Rico Constitution Day Celebration, honoring the island’s cultural heritage and history. The event will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome, NY.

Puerto Rico Constitution Day commemorates the enactment of Law #1 on August 4, 1952, which established June 27 as Constitution Day, marking the ratification of Puerto Rico’s Constitution under Governor Luis Muñoz Marín.

The celebration will feature performances of the United States national anthem and La Borinqueña, Puerto Rico’s national anthem, by Zaida Morell of New Hartford, NY. The event is open to the public and aims to bring the community together in celebration of Puerto Rican culture, music, and history.

The event will include:

  • Puerto Rican Foods, Non-profit agencies and cultural merchandise
  • Vendor booths from local businesses and agencies
  • Family-friendly activities, games, raffles, and giveaways
  • Dance contests, a domino tournament, and more!

Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory since 1898, blends Indigenous Taíno, Spanish, and African influences. All those born on the island are U.S. citizens and carry U.S. passports. However, residents living on the island cannot vote in U.S. presidential elections unless registered in one of the 50 states.

“As a Puerto Rican myself, this annual event is a celebration of our Boricua roots and culture in the Mohawk Valley,” said Feidy Miner, MVLA Board Member. Luis Martinez, also on the MVLA Board, added, “This celebration is important not just because of the large Puerto Rican population here, but because it reminds us of our shared history, freedom, and equality as Americans.”
