World War II vet, 101, feted by Syracuse Honor Flight

World War II veteran Louis Iauco turned 101 the day after Veterans Day, and enjoyed quite a celebration in his honor.

Having enlisted after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, the 101-year-old served through the end of the conflict.

He was celebrated by the Syracuse Honor Fight, which left no stoned unturned for the war hero. Iauco was treated to a four-gun salute, a special fire truck caravan and more, making for a patriotic day.

“I know that that’s worth,” Iauco said, holding a folded flag. “And you know where that’s going to go? Right back in the bed, in my safe.”

The flag gifted to Iauco flew over Washington, D.C., and was given to him by the 174th Attack Wing Honor Guard.
