New information has come out on an offensive assignment given out a teacher at Whitesboro High School.
Last week, a personal finance teacher assigned homework that included a negative reference to the Cornhill community in Utica.
The school district has since issued a statement on the incident, and published an apology letter from the teacher who gave out the assignment.
In it, the teacher says he “fell short as an educator and role model,” and said “In an assignment, for my Personal Finance class, I used insensitive, offensive language, and I’m sincerely sorry.”
He apologized for giving the assignment out, saying it was not his intention to insult people who live in the Cornhill area.
District Superintendent Brian Bellair says this teacher is a long time employee and that he trusts the sincerity of his apology.
Bellair also says the district will continue professional development with staff regarding bias, diversity, equity and inclusion.
