“The State, County and City’s Emergency Declarations are still in effect and no vehicles can be parked on city streets at any time until further notice.
A briefing was held at the command post at City Hall this morning with all partnering agencies.
As of 6:00 am, all city streets are passable. There are still streets that are narrow, mainly in the Cornhill and west Utica area as there were a large number of cars that had to be towed from these sections of the city.
NYS Department of Transportation, Office of General Services, Oneida County and City DPW resources and equipment were deployed to these areas yesterday and worked around the clock to further open these streets. As a result, the overwhelming majority of streets have been widened.
As we complete Phase I of the operation by making every street drivable, we will immediately begin Phase II which entails snow removal for intersections and snowbanks.
In my conversation with Governor Cuomo yesterday, and DOT officials this morning, the State will work with the City as we continue operations.
In addition, the National Guard and NYS Canal Corporation is working with the Utica Police Department, Utica Fire Department, Utica Parks Department, and the Water Authority to clear out the city’s fire hydrants and is making tremendous progress. We encourage residents to shovel hydrants on their blocks if they can safely do.
I also ask residents if they know of a neighbor in need to please do what they can to help.”
