Troy seeks state funding to curb street violence

[ad_1]

In the wake of recent gun violence, Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello sent a letter to Gov. Hochul asking for help tackling the problem.

Her letter comes after the deadly shooting of 16-year-old Jaylin Gourrier-Lewis last week.

Mantello is asking the governor for resources to implement a better coordinated Capital Region task force, made up of local and state law enforcement agencies.

She says putting strength in numbers can help combat the increased violence.

She’s also asking for funding towards youth mentoring programs, school resource officers, and other initiatives meant to get at-risk kids off the street.

The city recently hired more police officers to focus on community policing, but Mantello says it’s time to work together before another young person gets killed.
