SYRACUSE, NY – This morning, Senator John Mannion was joined by Centro Transit workers at the Centro Transit Hub in Downtown Syracuse to highlight the importance of infrastructure and public transit.
“In the State Senate, I worked to secure funding for public transit efforts across New York State, and I plan to continue that work at the federal level in Congress,” said Senator John Mannion. “Public transit is an essential facet of our infrastructure that helps people get to school, commute to work, and connect our communities. In Congress, I will keep fighting for investments that support our workers, reduce poverty, and ensure that our communities can thrive.”
“As a State Senator, John Mannion has been a leader in Albany helping to get funding for public transit,” said ATU Local 580 Business Manager Frank Saya. “He has been an advocate for transit riders and ATU Local 580 members. We trust him to deliver the needed resources for Centro as a member of Congress. John Mannion is on our side.’
“Senator John Mannion understands the importance of public transit,” said ATU International Vice President Jacques Chapman. “He is a union member and transit rider. He’s on the side of transit riders and ATU members. At the ATU we’re riding with Mannion for Congress in NY-22.”
In 2021, Congress passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which included the largest ever investment in public transit. The legislation provides funds for Centro expansion, new buses, and creating Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services in Upstate New York. Brandon Williams, who sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, wants to cut that funding. As Centro plans to expand into Cortland and Clay, Central New York and the Mohawk Valley deserve a representative in Congress who will fight to secure more funding for our transit systems, not take it away.
