UTICA, N.Y. — 95.5 FM The Heat and Utica Phoenix Media proudly congratulate Ron Klopfanstein, host and producer of Hot Seat: Media Monday, on being named the recipient of the Communications & Community Awareness Impact Award from United Way of the Mohawk Valley.
Klopfanstein will be honored at United Way of the Mohawk Valley’s celebration breakfast on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in recognition of his work elevating community voices and bringing attention to issues that matter most across the region.
Ron Klopfanstein’s journey with Utica Phoenix Media reflects years of growth, dedication, and impact. He first joined the organization as an investigative journalist, later becoming a regular panelist on Cassandra Harris Lockwood’s Hot Seat talk show. In 2024, that work evolved into a new chapter when Klopfanstein became the host and producer of Hot Seat: Media Monday on 95.5 FM The Heat, where he has continued to build a distinct voice in local journalism through in-depth interviews, community reporting, and coverage of stories often overlooked elsewhere.
In addition to this latest recognition, Klopfanstein has earned an Outstanding Educator from the Genesis Group, two journalism awards from the Syracuse Press Club and is currently nominated for two more awards this year, further underscoring his growing impact as a multimedia journalist and broadcaster.
“Ron has become an essential voice in our media family and in the Mohawk Valley community,” said Cassandra Harris Lockwood, owner of 95.5 FM The Heat and Utica Phoenix Media. “His work is thoughtful, compassionate, and deeply committed to shining a light on the people and issues that deserve to be seen. We are incredibly proud of him and grateful to see his work recognized in this way.”
Through Hot Seat: Media Monday, Klopfanstein has helped expand 95.5 FM The Heat’s mission of combining media, culture, and community connection. His reporting has consistently highlighted resilience, inequity, service, and hope in the Mohawk Valley, while also reflecting his commitment as an educator and mentor.
This honor from United Way of the Mohawk Valley recognizes not only Klopfanstein’s journalistic excellence, but also his ability to use media as a force for awareness, empathy, and positive community impact.
