State Police arrest Bethlehem man for Child Pornography possession
On February 21, 2025, State Police of Latham, with the assistance of the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, The Bethlehem Police Department, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, arrested Daniel B. Fiato, 43, of Bethlehem, NY, for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class “D” felony, and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class “E” felony.
Fiato is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his Bethlehem, NY, residence on February 21, 2025. The investigation stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Fiato was arrested at his home and transported to SP Latham for processing. He was then arraigned at the Bethlehem Town Court, where he was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
Overturned tractor trailer shuts down 81 during morning commute
Numerous weather related crashes made travel along Interstate 81 in Cortland County a bit tricky.
On February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m., New York State Police at Homer responded to an overturned tractor trailer on I-81 near mile marker 56 in the town of Homer. The driver of the tractor trailer, a 38-year-old female from Carlstadt, NJ was checked out on scene but not transported. The Interstate was shut down around 9:00 a.m. to assist with tow removal and reopened around 11:00 a.m.
Troopers have responded to numerous crashes and disabled vehicles since early this morning:
At approximately 3:13 a.m., Troopers assisted a Toyota Highlander on I-81 near mile marker 53 in Cortland that went off the roadway and into a snow embankment. No injuries were reported from the 29-year-old male driver from Jamaica, NY.
At approximately 5:25 a.m., Troopers were dispatched to I-81 north, mile marker 58 in the town of Homer for a tractor trailer on its side. The 58-year-old male driver from Brookhaven, GA was not injured.
At approximately 7:10 a.m., Troopers responded to I-81 north, mile marker 48 in the town of Cortlandville where a Jeep Wrangler lost control on the roadway, rolled but ended up upright. The 29-year-old male of Endicott, NY did not report any injuries.
At approximately 8:24 a.m., a Trooper responded to I-81 north, mile maker 56 in the town of Homer for a two vehicle crash where a Toyota Rav4 was slowing for traffic and was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Equinox. No injuries were reported from the 22-year old male of Prattsburgh, NY in the Rav4 or the 39-year-old male from Cortland, NY in the Equinox.
At approximately 11:27 a.m., Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash with reported injuries on State Route 281 in Preble. An investigation at the scene determined that a Toyota Corolla was at the off ramp from I-81 south at exit 62 and State Route 281. The operator of the Corolla attempted to make a left turn at State Route 281 but instead crossed over State Route 281 and attempted to get onto the on-ramp from State Route 281 onto Interstate 81 south. A Dodge Ram was traveling northeast on State Route 281 when it collided into the passenger side of the Corolla. The operator of the Corolla, a 22-year-old female of Syracuse, NY and three passengers (a 25-year-old male of Syracuse, NY, a 19-year-old male of Syracuse, NY and a 29-year-old female of Syracuse, NY) were all transported to Upstate Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the Dodge Ram, a 70-year-old male of Liverpool, NY was not transported.
