The Rome City School District is hoping that enough parents can drive their children to school to ease any future bus driver shortages. Last week, the district posted a transportation survey for parents to fill out, and today is the final day they can do so.
This comes after the rapid spread of COVID-19 cases that infected many of the bus drivers in the district. This has lead to students in kindergarten through 12th grade currently doing remote learning until October 12.
The school district initially put out the survey on the night students first started remote learning and the plan was to close the survey on October 1, but that was extended to today.
So far, the district has gotten 60% of responses and found with the results they received only 5% of students on buses would be reduced.
If you do have a child in the district who is learning remotely, the district has sent out a reminder that Grab-and-Go meals will be available at elementary school buildings each day from 11 a.m. to noon.
