Dr. Michelle (“Mikki”) Hebl, an applied psychologist at Rice University, will discuss her work on discrimination and its impact on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 4:10 p.m. in Kennedy Auditorium, Taylor Science Center, at Hamilton College. The lecture is free and open to the public.
In this talk, Hebl will provide an overview of her work on subtle discrimination and offer reasons why such discrimination is so powerful. With a series of active-learning demonstrations, she will also provide insight on ways to overcome such biases.
Hebl, a professor of psychology and of management at Rice, focuses her research on social psychological phenomena and its presence in industries and organizations. With over 100 publications that include edited books, book chapters and journal articles, Hebl offers many insights into the power of discrimination.
Hebl has spent years studying bias and gender issues. In 2006, she was one of five to receive an NSF grant to assist women in STEM fields at Rice University. Her research on gender and service to women in the community has twice earned her Rice University Women’s Resource Center Impact Awards.
