(UTICA, NY) AUGUST 1, 2024–After nearly three weeks of Disaster Relief operations following tornadoes in Central and Northern New York, the American Red Cross is closing its Service Center in Rome, as of 4pm Monday, August 5th. Although the Center is closing, Red Cross staff and volunteers remain available to provide assistance for those affected by the storms that swept through Oneida and Madison counties.
Area residents who suffered damage and have not registered with the Red Cross may still be eligible for services. To be eligible for assistance you must apply and meet the following requirements:
• Your residence (rental or home) where you lived before the tornado is in an American Red Cross confirmed disaster-impacted geographic area.
• You or a member of your household can provide proof of identity and residence.
• The residence you lived in is determined by the Red Cross to be destroyed or has major damage.
o Major damage means the home has suffered significant structural damage that requires extensive repairs.
o A destroyed residence that is a total loss or with damage so severe that repairs are not feasible.
