Project Fibonacci Foundation Wins Copper City Community Choice Awards

The Project Fibonacci Foundation was the winner of $10,000 in the Copper City category of the Community Choice Awards.

Three local nonprofit organizations were nominated in the Copper City category with Project Fibonacci receiving the most votes through social media and an online campaign in August.

Project Fibonacci provides STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering ,Art and Math) Education to local students as well as hosts a STEAM Leadership Conference every summer in Rome. The results were tallied and each of the winners in eight categories, including the Copper City category, were surprised by a “prize patrol bus” that presented a check from the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties along with congratulations.

“Project Fibonacci was thrilled to be nominated,” the foundation said. “We had a great time participating in the contest and campaigning for votes! We want to congratulate all the nominees in the eight categories as well as the winners and all of the people that voted!”

“This was a great community event and The Community Foundation did an outstanding job in the planning and promotion of the contest,” the foundation added.

“We were extremely happy to be a part of it and are so grateful to have won. We want to thank The Community Foundation for this amazing opportunity!” Also competing in the Copper City category were the Rome Art and Community Center and Copper City Community Connections.

“This community-driven grantmaking contest was meant to generate greater awareness of the work of our non-profits, educate community members of the grantmaking process and its positive impact on the community and engage Community Foundation fundholders in meaningful ways,” The Community Foundation announcement said.
