Check registration before going

Voters can confirm their registration through the New York State voter lookup tool. According to the State Board of Elections, registration applications must be received by a board of elections no later than October 24 to qualify for the general election.

Early voting uses the same basic process as Election Day: voters privately mark and scan their ballots. The state’s early voting guidance says those votes are included in unofficial election-night totals.

If you already have a mail ballot

Completed early mail and absentee ballots may be delivered to an early voting site in the voter’s county during the October 24 to November 1 voting period. Follow the ballot’s instructions, including signing and sealing the required envelopes. The State Board of Elections’ ballot guidance lists the return options and deadlines.

Voters who have already been issued an early mail, accessible or absentee ballot cannot vote on a voting machine for the same election. They may vote in person using an affidavit ballot. Election officials check whether the previously issued ballot was received before determining whether to count the affidavit ballot. Contact the county board for help with a ballot that has not arrived or questions about your situation.

Election Day and voter assistance

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters choosing Election Day must use their assigned polling place, which may differ from an early voting location.

For registration, ballot or accessibility questions, call the Oneida County Board of Elections at 315-798-5765. Its office is at Union Station, 321 Main Street, third floor, Utica. Check the county’s election information page for updates before traveling.
