OC Re-Entry Taskforce Helps Individuals Formerly Incarcerated Back Into the Community

Utica, NY – The Oneida County Re-Entry Taskforce assists individuals returning home from state incarceration. Our vision is to build a safer New York as a result of the successful transition of individuals who leave prison and return to our communities each year.

The program offers access to services within the community that will help ease the transition for qualifying participants. Re-entry focuses largely on individuals who are considered moderate to high-risk of re-offending, honing in on stabilization and criminogenic needs.

Our services include referrals to: Department of Social Services, mental health, substance use programs, housing, domestic violence and/or anger management, and vocational and educational opportunities. The program utilizes service coordination, while also providing a cognitive behavioral intervention and a work readiness program. These programs offer new patterns of thinking, as well as fostering skills for finding gainful employment. Re-entry can also assist with ordering documentation- birth certificate, social security card and NYS ID. Eligible individuals must be on community supervision (Parole) in Oneida County to enroll in re-entry services.

“Re-entry services are vital for those returning back into the community,” says Program Manager Emma Rasmussen. “Adjusting and transitioning to a life outside of prison is not easy without the right support network. This program bridges that gap, by providing connections towards leading a successful and positive lifestyle. When people are given a second chance, change is inevitable. Re-entry offers participants an array of opportunities, where transformation and prosperity are within reach.”

This program is 100% funded by a Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) grant of $136,546.

Eligible participants:

  • Must live in and be on Parole in Oneida County
  • Any age
  • Can be referred pre-release through Parole Officer. Post-release, can also be referred by Parole Officer, or contact Emma Rasmussen for more information at 315-798-5908.
