Albany County’s COVID-19 death toll this month has now eclipsed October’s mark as County Executive Dan McCoy reported Tuesday that two more people have died from the virus.
In all, 20 Albany County residents have died from the coronavirus in November, up from 18 in October and nine in September, bringing the total death toll to 445 since the pandemic began.
McCoy said 57 people are in the hospitals, the highest the county has seen since February. Last winter’s surge saw a high of 186 people hospitalized.
“Our numbers continue to move in the wrong direction, with hospitalizations at their highest level since February 23, and the loss of two more county residents to COVID complications,” McCoy said in a statement. “But we know our best defense against the worst symptoms and illness caused by COVID is the vaccine and the booster shot.”
There are 582 active cases in Albany County, and the county’s seven-day average of percent positive rate is now up to 5.8%, while the Capital Region as a whole has an average rate of 7.8%, McCoy said.
