Congresswoman Elise Stefanik toured parts of Oneida County Tuesday, a new area she could represent after winning re-elections.
Stefanik spent time visiting the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome. She is hoping to represent New York’s newly drawn 21st Congressional District, which includes areas in Oneida County.
Stefanik is on the House Armed Services Committee and says she has helped bring funding to Rome Labs each year through the National Defense Authorization Act.
Stefanik says the work being done there is important to national security.
“I think it’s going to grow significantly. When you think about the technologies that they are invested in; quantum, cyber, this is where we need to make sure [the Department of Defense] has emerging technology capabilities,” said Stefanik.
Currently, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney represents the city of Rome. She plans to run for the 23rd District next election cycle.
