NAACP Black History Month Celebration

Join the Utica/Oneida County Branch NAACP to celebrate Black History Month with its annual program hosted by the History Center. 2026 marks 100 years of national Black history commemorations. What began as a week-long observance has grown into Black History Month, a cornerstone of American and global culture. “Black history’s value is not its contribution to mainstream historical narratives, but its resonance in the lives of Black people,” said Tina Tanner, program chair. “This year’s program will focus on how Black history resonates in the lives of youth in our community.” Members of the Utica chapter of the NAACP will also share information about their organization, membership opportunities, and community announcements. This program is free and open to the public; light
refreshments will be served.
The Utica/Oneida County Branch NAACP is a Civil Rights advocacy organization and its
purpose is to improve the political, educational, social, and economic status of minority groups; to eliminate racial prejudice; to keep the public aware of the adverse effects of racial discrimination; and to take lawful action to secure its elimination, consistent with the efforts of the national organization and in conformity with the articles of Incorporation of the Association, its Constitution and By-Laws, and as directed by the National Board of Directors.
