MVCC Sets Veterans Day Admissions Sessions in Utica for Nov. 11

UTICA – Prospective students and their families can use the Veterans Day holiday to explore Mohawk Valley Community College during two MVCC admissions sessions on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026.

MVCC will hold the sessions at its Utica Campus, 1101 Sherman Drive. Visitors may choose either 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m. Each session will begin with an admissions presentation and continue with a walking tour of campus.

The college announced the visits in an Oct. 27 news release. The timing is intended to reach people who have Veterans Day off from school or work. MVCC itself will remain open for classes and business that day.

These MVCC admissions sessions are a great opportunity for anyone considering furthering their education.

Registration is available on the college’s Veterans Day 2026 Information Sessions page. The morning and afternoon sessions are separate choices, so visitors should select the time that fits their schedule.

What the sessions will cover

The admissions presentation will provide an overview of academic programs, student life, Hawk athletics, financial aid and scholarship opportunities. An admissions counselor will lead the presentation, according to the registration page.

The page also lists an optional residence-life tour. That gives visitors interested in living on campus another part of college life to explore. The release does not list the individual stops on the walking tour.

The sessions are intended for prospective students and their families. People who previously enrolled at MVCC are directed by the event page to contact the Holistic Student Support Office for information about returning to campus.

Where to arrive and park

Visitors should go to Payne Hall to check in before heading to the presentation room. The event page identifies the Admissions Office as Payne Hall, Room 101, at the Sherman Drive campus.

Parking is available in open lots around Payne Hall and the academic building, according to the event information. Visitors can review the college’s visit page and campus-map link before leaving home. Anyone with questions about finding the office or taking part in the walking tour can contact Admissions at 315-792-5354 or admissions@mvcc.edu.

A starting point for comparing programs

MVCC’s academic programs page lists more than 90 degree and certificate programs. They are grouped into academic schools covering art, business and hospitality, health sciences, humanities, public and human services, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics, commonly called STEM.

The choices include graphic design, business administration, culinary arts management, nursing, human services, computer science and welding technology. The college also lists transfer-focused study options alongside career programs. These are examples of the college’s offerings, not a list of separate presentations promised for Nov. 11.

For someone still weighing a field of study, the visit can be a chance to ask how a certificate differs from a degree, which programs match a career goal, and what steps come next. Students planning to continue at another college can also ask where to find transfer information.

MVCC’s Career Development Center provides students and alumni with help exploring majors and careers, preparing resumes and cover letters, and building job-search and interview skills. Those services offer another topic to ask about while learning how the college supports students beyond their classes.

The college’s admissions FAQ says its online application is free and that it uses rolling admissions. Some programs have separate requirements or deadlines. Acceptance to the college does not guarantee a place in every program. Visitors with a particular major in mind should ask what that program requires and which records to submit. Those bringing credits from another college can ask about having official transcripts sent for review.

Looking at life outside the classroom

The presentation’s student-life and athletics topics cover parts of the college experience that a course list alone cannot show. MVCC’s student-life information describes on-campus housing, dining, intercollegiate sports, intramural activities, and campus events.

The college also reports more than 40 clubs and organizations. Its current listings include arts groups, academic and career-related clubs, a Returning Adult Students Club and a Student Veteran’s Association.

Visitors interested in Hawk athletics can ask how to learn more about a team or recreational activity. Those considering housing can use the optional residence-life visit to gather information before making plans. The information session is a place to learn about these options; it does not establish a student’s eligibility for housing, athletics or a particular program.

Financial aid and a nearby scholarship deadline

Financial aid and scholarships are both on the Nov. 11 agenda. MVCC’s Financial Aid Office helps students understand aid options and the application process. The college’s website identifies the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, as the starting point for need-based aid.

The MVCC Foundation scholarship page says scholarships are available for incoming freshmen, second-year students, returning adults and part-time students. Each scholarship has its own criteria, so visitors should review the requirements rather than assume an award is automatic.

There is also a timely reason to ask about scholarships. The college’s scholarship application instructions list Nov. 15 as a deadline for awards applied to the upcoming spring semester. That is four days after the information sessions. Some scholarships have different deadlines.

The instructions call for a completed application and supporting materials, which vary by student category. Applicants must name the specific scholarships they want to be considered for. Questions about requirements or accessing the application can go to scholarships@mvcc.edu. Attending an admissions session does not replace a scholarship application.

Other ways to visit MVCC

People who cannot attend on Veterans Day have other options. MVCC’s separate Fall Open House will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2026. The Utica Phoenix’s Fall Open House preview has more information. Registration is available on the Fall Open House event page.

Prospective students can also arrange a one-on-one admissions appointment and campus visit. The Admissions Office can discuss educational goals, programs, and how to apply and enroll. To schedule, call 315-792-5354 or email admissions@mvcc.edu.

For the Nov. 11 sessions, the next step is to choose the morning or afternoon time and register through MVCC. General information about the college and its programs is available at www.mvcc.edu.

Reporting is based on MVCC’s Oct. 27, 2026, news release and the official college pages linked above. The release was issued by the Office of Marketing and Communications, 1101 Sherman Drive, Utica, New York 13501, 315-792-5331.
