MVCC Fall Open House Offers Campus Tours and Program Guidance

Mohawk Valley Community College will open its Utica campus to prospective students and their families for the MVCC Fall Open House 2026 on Friday, Nov. 13, offering tours, academic demonstrations and direct access to faculty, coaches and support staff.

The annual Fall Open House will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1101 Sherman Drive. Admission is free. Registration is strongly encouraged, although MVCC says walk-in visitors will also be welcome.

The event is designed to help high school students, adult learners and families compare programs and understand what attending MVCC would involve before they apply or enroll.

What visitors can expect at MVCC

Prospective students will be able to explore academic programs, visit classrooms, laboratories and studios, and speak with instructors in the fields they are considering. College staff will also explain student-support services, clubs, athletics and options for continuing to a four-year school.

“Open House is a great way to get to know MVCC before becoming a student,” MVCC Director of Admissions Dan Ianno said in the college’s announcement.

Ianno said visitors can meet faculty, connect with athletic coaches and learn about the people who help students choose careers, prepare for work and plan transfers to four-year colleges and universities.

The official MVCC Fall Open House page confirms the Nov. 13 date, the 10 a.m. start and the Utica campus location.

Campus tours and residence-life information

Campus tours will include academic spaces and residence halls. MVCC will also offer information sessions for students considering living on campus.

Those sessions may be especially useful for families trying to estimate the complete cost and daily routine of college. Housing decisions affect transportation, meals, schedules and the amount of support a student may need away from home.

Visitors should prepare questions about residence-hall rules, meal plans, security, accessibility, move-in schedules and what students may bring to campus. Asking those questions in person can make later decisions easier.

Programs for different education goals

MVCC serves more than one type of student. Some enroll immediately after high school. Others return to college after working, raising a family or serving in the military. The open house will allow visitors to ask how various programs fit those different situations.

The college offers career-focused programs that can lead directly to employment as well as programs built for transfer to four-year institutions. Students should ask whether a program leads to a certificate or degree, how long it normally takes and whether internships or clinical placements are required.

MVCC’s Center for Corporate and Community Education will also participate. The center offers noncredit courses for professional development, personal wellness and leisure learning. Those options can help residents build skills without enrolling in a full degree program.

Questions prospective students should bring

  • What classes are required for the program?
  • Can credits transfer to a four-year college?
  • Are evening, online or hybrid classes available?
  • What internships, laboratories or clinical experiences are included?
  • What tutoring and academic support are offered?
  • What financial aid deadlines should families know?
  • What jobs do graduates commonly pursue?

Writing questions before arriving can help visitors use the three-hour event efficiently. Students interested in several programs should identify their top choices and plan to speak with each department.

Admissions, financial aid and student support

College planning involves more than selecting a major. Students often need help understanding applications, financial aid, placement, disability services, tutoring and career planning.

The open house gives families an opportunity to identify the offices that handle those needs. Visitors should ask what documents are required for admission and when they should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly called the FAFSA.

Students who are the first in their families to attend college may benefit from asking staff to explain each step in plain language. Adult learners should ask how prior college credit, military training or professional experience may affect their program.

Athletes can meet Hawks coaches and learn about teams, eligibility expectations and the balance between sports and academics. Students interested in clubs can ask how to join and what activities are available outside the classroom.

How to register or arrange another visit

Visitors may register through MVCC’s official open-house registration page. Registration helps the college plan for attendance, but walk-ins will be accepted.

People who cannot attend Nov. 13 may arrange another visit or admissions appointment. The Admissions Office can be reached by email at admissions@mvcc.edu, by text at 315-888-5602 or by phone at 315-792-5354.

Families should allow time for parking, check-in and walking between campus buildings. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing may be useful for the tour.

Why the event matters locally

MVCC is a major education and workforce institution for Oneida County and the Mohawk Valley. Its programs connect local residents with jobs, professional credentials and pathways to advanced degrees.

For families, a community-college open house can turn a broad idea about college into a practical plan. Students can see where they would study, meet people who may teach them and compare the cost and structure of different programs.

The Fall Open House runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at MVCC’s Utica campus, 1101 Sherman Drive.
