MVCC Commencement set for Friday, May 12, at Utica Memorial Auditorium

Mohawk Valley Community College will host its Spring Commencement on Friday, May 12, starting at 4 p.m. in the Utica Memorial Auditorium. More than 1,100 MVCC students have been invited to walk across the stage for conferral of associate degrees or certificates awarded in December 2016, May 2017, or August 2017. The ceremony is free and open to the public, and will also be live streamed at https://mvcc.edu/live.

Ryan Miller, director of MVCC’s thINCubator, will deliver this year’s Commencement keynote address. Also appearing will be MVCC’s 2017 Alumni of Merit Award winner, Scott H. Perra ’77, president and CEO of Mohawk Valley Health System. MVCC President Randall J. VanWagoner, Ph.D., will preside. Offering remarks and congratulations will be William Calli Jr., Chair of the MVCC Board of Trustees; and other dignitaries and invited guests.

About the graduating class

To date, more than 1,100 graduates are eligible for the conferral of a two-year associate in applied science, associate in occupational studies, associate in arts, associate in science degree, or one-year certificate. By graduating, students join MVCC’s family of more than 46,000 living alumni on record.

About the keynote speaker

Ryan Miller creates and connects big ideas, communities, stories, and people. He is obsessed with the idea that emerging technologies and communication platforms have the ability to transform and reinvent communities. In May 2015, Miller began his role as the Director of MVCC’s thINCubator, an organization meant to drive innovation and foster a culture of entrepreneurship in the Mohawk Valley. He is 2003 graduate of Ithaca College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, an organizer of TEDxUtica, founder of YouticaEATS, and co-founder the Utica Firefly Storytelling Project.

About the Alumni of Merit Award

Scott H. Perra ’77 was selected as the honoree by the Alumni Association Board of Directors. After graduating from MVCC with an associate degree in Business Administration, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Services Management from SUNY College of Technology at Utica, and his master’s degree in Management Science from SUNY Binghamton. He was designated a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2000.
