Mom & Daughter Launch Black-Themed Backpacks, Handbags to Show Everyone

Chrishonda Benson wanted to show her daughter and the world that brown skin is beautiful. Therefore, she decided to create Pretty Dope Society, an extensive collection of products that incorporates the illustrations of Black artists according to Black News. In October 2020, the company set out to breathe life into Black art has since sold thousands of products that hope to fill the representation gap. They offer diaper bags, travel bags, blankets, drinkware, and more.

The brand wants to intentionally both visually and emotionally means everything. “I wanted Black children and adults everywhere to understand that they are beautiful and they deserve to be represented in items that they see and use every day,” Chrishonda said.

“What our young people and community see around them shapes their expectations for themselves and one another. While it may seem easy to purchase the newest game console or upgrade their phones, it’s imperative to make an impact when it comes to representation” she said.
