Longtime WSYR news anchor Rod Wood dies at 81

Legendary Central New York news anchor Rod Wood has died.

WSYR-TV reported that he passed away Sunday following a brief illness.

He spent 44 years at Channel 9 before retiring in November 2020.

A Syracuse native, Wood went to Nottingham High School before joining the Army in 1960.

He is survived by five children and 10 grandchildren.

Services haven’t been announced yet.

Wood was 81 years old.
