Liverpool dominates second half, beats Utica Proctor

It was a rainy and chilly night at Liverpool for the Class AA quarterfinals between the the Warriors and Utica Proctor.

Coming into the contest, the Warriors were the four-seed, sitting at 5-3, while the Raiders were the five-seed, with a 4-3 record.

The Raiders looked solid in the first half and took a 22-14 lead into the break.

The Warriors came out with a different mindset in the second half.

On the offensive end, they were able to run the ball effectively, and on defense, they made a handful of crucial stops. Their defense is what stole in the show in the second half by blanking the Raiders in both quarters.

When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read Liverpool 39, Utica Proctor 22.

Several of the seniors sat in the middle of the field afterwards, as it was their final home game. They took it all in on that “L” at the 50-yard line.

“It feels great. Coming into the week, we had a rough week last week. Guys came to practice, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday. We put the work in. Everyone watched filmed. We knew where the guys were, knew where to run, knew where not to run. We came together as a team. Great feeling to move on,” Liverpool senior Nathan Graser said.

“It was great. I’m coming to the end of my senior year, so one more win is one more week to coach with these great kids,” Liverpool football coach Dave Mancuso said.
