KELBERMAN CENTER NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR A BICYCLE CAMP FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM AND DISABILITIES

The Kelberman Center has partnered with iCan Shine, a non-profit organization that teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle through its iCan Bike program.  This five-day camp, requiring riders to attend only one 75-minute session per day, is taking place in the Mohawk Valley from August 21 through August 25 at the New Hartford Recreation Center.

iCan Shine is a non-profit organization that collaborates with local organizations to host camps in their communities.  This camp is being hosted by The Kelberman Center, a regional center for excellence for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Research shows that over 80% of people with Autism never experience the thrill of independently riding a bike, and this camp aims to defy those numbers!iCan Shine uses adapted equipment, trained professionals and volunteers. With 75 minutes of instruction over five days, more than 80% of riders learn to ride a conventional bicycle independently by the end of camp.

Cost of the camp is $75 per rider. Details are available online at https://icanshine.org/ican-bike-utica-ny/  or by contacting the Kelberman Center at (315) 797-6241 or  info@kelbermancenter.org
