Firefighter injured in Mark Avenue house fire

A firefighter was injured battling a fire in Syracuse overnight.

The city fire department was called to 114 Mark Avenue for a structure fire shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. When they arrived, there was a heavy volume of fire in the back of a large, two-family home.

The fire quickly spread from the second floor into the attic where firefighters dealt with heat and limited visibility. It took more than 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and an additional engine company had to be called for assistance.

The firefighter who was hurt was transported to Upstate University Hospital where his injuries were determined to not be life-threatening.

Investigators are working to determine cause of the fire.
