Voters in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District approved a $52 million capital project proposal.
The project was given the green light by a 611-438 vote.
The proposal includes a new connective corridor, which would serve as an indoor walkway to connect the school’s two main buildings.
The new area will also be used as a student commons area and cafeteria. A number of new classrooms and learning spaces will be added to better meet the needs of students.
There will also be a new learning support center and upgrades to the auditorium along with the school’s heating and ventilation system.
“We’re looking at trying to find ways to better serve our students and our community as a whole. All of these pieces of this project do that. Every student that comes through Fayetteville-Manlius will walk through those high school doors. So, it will touch every student from now moving forward, and we’re excited about that,” said F-M High School Executive Principal Dr. Ray Kilmer.
District Superintendent Dr. Craig Tice said about 80% of this project will be covered by state aid. The district will use $7.2 million from its capital reserve fund.
The project does come with a tax rate increase of just under 2%.
