Destiny USA will not open on Thanksgiving for second year

While your mind might be on turkey and mashed potatoes right now, there’s another big day right around the corner. Black Friday shopping is almost here, but it’s likely to see a quieter crowd this year.

Destiny USA will be closed again this year on Thanksgiving. The mall says it’s due to the pandemic, and wanting to give people time with their families on the holiday. Only Regal Cinemas, Texas de Brazil, and Macy’s – only for curbside pickup – will open their doors on Thursday.

Doors to the mall will open at 7 a.m. on Friday to get those Black Friday deals.

“You will see some crowds, but I don’t think it’ll be as heavily packed as we saw it back in 2019 and the years before. You’ll see steady traffic throughout the day, you’ll probably see heavier flow in the morning as we saw last year, that’s what I’m anticipating,” said Nikita Jankowski, director of marketing at Destiny USA.

According to mall officials, Destiny USA’s tenants have already seen an increase in Canadian traffic, following eased COVID-19 restrictions at the border. So there might be some more international shoppers this year than there were in 2020.

Santa will be in the mall for the start of the Christmas season. It’s recommended to reserve a time in advance if you want a photo with him.
